The Egyptian Diviner Posture

The Egyptian Diviner sits majestically in a small alcove in the Louvre Museum in Paris. I was so delighted to discover her that I neglected to search for and document the relevant archaeological information: where in Egypt was the statue found, from what time period, and in what temple? Her headdress identifies her as an Isis-Hathor figure, and statues of Osiris, Isis’s brother-husband, reflect a similar pose but with different positioning of the arms. Another form of the posture shows her in a similar seated position with the right arm exactly the same but with an infant, probably her son, Horus, in her lap and supported by her left arm. In searching the Internet sources from the Louvre collection as well as other Egyptian sites, I have been unable to locate this specific statue of Isis to learn more about her.

Our first trance with the Egyptian Diviner posture was on October 8, 1995, on the date of a full moon. A sweet low voice of a woman, full with her own power, spoke, “We have been waiting a long time for you to return.” There was a throbbing above my head and I saw the disk in her headdress as first a full moon and then as Earth radiant with blues and greens against the darkness. She instructed me to put anything in the disk and then to focus on it, and it would become like a mirror in which I could see answers. It was not hard to identify this as a divination posture.

During the trance my mind was flooded with questions. It became important to address them slowly, one at a time. As answers came pouring in, I had a strange sense of homecoming while at the same time being frightened by the power that threatened to overtake my personality. It seemed as though a force wanted to channel through me and I refused, remembering a strange and unsettling experience of spontaneous channeling that had occurred to me some years earlier. Nevertheless, it was so seductive to have access to answers to multitudes of questions.

I was not the only one who quickly identified this as a divining posture. Everyone in our small group was drawn into asking questions in their first experience with the Egyptian Diviner, and so she was named on that first occasion. Over the years, we have learned that she is a powerful diviner with little patience for irrelevant or repeated questions. She is noted for responses such as these: “This isn’t your problem—stay out of it,” “Your heart isn’t in these questions—you know you can deal with what comes up,” “You already know the answer to this; ask me another question.” However, when the questions are sincere and to the point, the responses are profound and meaningful. She often says, “You have to be willing, to have the courage to formulate the real questions, and to hear the answers.” Chris commented, “Now that I have honored her, she is close and gives me a lot of information.
